Why should I consider laser hair removal?

Shaving, tweezing, waxing and depilatory creams last only a few days and can be painful, messy and cause ugly ingrown hairs. Electrolysis is a tedious, invasive and painful process that involves inserting a needle into each hair follicle and delivering an electrical charge to destroy them one at a time.  Electrolysis often requires years of treatments at regular intervals.  

How does laser hair removal work? 

Clinic'estetica uses the Light-Sheer® diode technology to deliver light energy non-invasively to hundreds of hair follicles simultaneously. The LightSheer® laser produces a beam of highly concentrated light energy. The laser pulses for a fraction of a second, just long enough to vaporize the melanin pigment in the hair follicles. LightSheer® can effectively treat an area (that would take over an hour with electrolysis) in just a few minutes by disabling several follicles at a time to eliminate or significantly impede regrowth .

Is laser hair removal painful?

Clinic'estetica™ uses a special ChillTip™ contact-cooling hand piece that greatly reduces any discomfort during treatment. The cool hand piece allows laser energy to be directed to the hair root while protecting and cooling the surrounding skin for a greater degree of efficacy and comfort. When the pulse of light is delivered, some patients experience a mild sting or pinch similar to the snap of a rubber band.  No local anesthesia or pain medication is required.

How many treatments does laser hair removal require?

Lasers treat the hair follicles that are in active growth phase. As a general rule, not all hair in the same area is in the same growth phase, thus several treatments may be needed for complete removal. For effective and permanent removal of hair it will typically take 5-7 treatments depending on your individual hair growth patterns.

How do I arrange a consultation?

For your convenience we do electronic consultations through a combination of email, photos, and telephone, as well as in-person consults at the Clinc. Call or email us to arrange a convenient time for your telephone consultation. During the consultation you will have the opportunity to discuss what changes you would like to make to your appearance and we will present the different options available to you and explain the risks, limitations and costs of any procedures. In-person consults are booked with our clinic scheduler.

What happens when I book an appointment?

We typically will send you medical forms to fill and return to us either by email or regular mail. If it appears that you have a preexisting medical condition for which a prophylactic regimen of medication is indicated, we will ask you to contact your primary care physician for a prescription of his or her recommendation. This instance occurs only in very specific cases.

What happens after treatment?

Following the procedure the area may be red or swollen, as if mildly sunburned. Our physicians may prescribe a topical cream to soothe the skin. Occasionally the treated skin becomes slightly crusty but this reaction will fade within a few days. Normal activities can resume immediately although you should avoid exposing the treated areas to sun. For the next few days do not use any products that may irritate the skin such as astringents. You may notice some hair growing in the treated areas approximately a week after your treatment. These hairs are actually the damaged hair falling out and you may shave them away if you wish. If you have a dark complexion, you may notice a temporary lightening of the skin in the treated area.

What is the long-term outlook like for most people?

Although most patients are satisfied with the results of laser hair removal, it is impossible to predict the success of the treatment for each individual. The resiliency of hair follicles in different parts of the body and in different individuals can vary widely. However, even in the most extreme cases the amount of hair can be significantly reduced.

Ideal candidate:

As with all procedures the ideal candidate for laser hair removal is in generally good physical health and psychologically stable. They have realistic expectations for the outcome of the procedure and are aware of its limitations. Desired results are easiest obtained in individuals with dark hair and light skin and who have not been tanning recently.
