Patients have reported getting a hotel reservation last minute via this website for excellent rates. How’s $35 for a Holiday Inn in Mission Valley, or $75 for a Holiday Inn across from the bay near downtown? If you have not used this site, when you do a search for a hotel, you will be asked what area of town (this will be multiple choice) . Various options and prices will be shown, but you will not know the name of the hotel until you make a selection and pay for it. If there are two restaurants on site, a business center, etc., you can guess the level of the hotel. It does give you the number of stars.
HOTELS.COM is another good search site and this one does give you the name of the hotel before you make your payment.
SAN YSIDRO (nearest border on USA side)
There are two motels near the border in San Ysidro that bring their guests to Tijuana clinics and pick them up. Neither is convenient to the trolley station, but if you had rented a car, you could leave it at the motel and take the shuttle to the clinic. The dining options in this area are lean also. Lots of fast food and chains.
